Do you need a dumpster permit in Houston?
On your own driveway or lot you usually don't. If the dumpster goes on the street, sidewalk or alley, here's what City of Houston Permitting Center / Solid Waste Management says:
- Businesses, apartment complexes and other properties with a dumpster or roll-off bigger than 50 cubic feet need a Combustible Waste Storage (dumpster) Permit from the city.
- The city page also applies it to a dumpster of any size that will stay on site for more than 60 days. Permits do not transfer between property owners.
- Applications, payments and renewals go through the Houston Permitting Center. For a short home project on your driveway this permit usually isn't the issue, but ask before placing anything in the street.

Local tip
Homes in unincorporated Harris County fall under county rules, not the city's.
